Occasional musings about Data, Transportation, Politics, Food
I am a data geek working in transportation and infrastructure who lives to read and eat. This site is for personal musings on things that catch my fancy along with a repository of links I find useful.
After a long delay, work done by me in collaboration with colleagues at Cambridge Systematics, UCF, Bird's Hill Research, and Ed Christopher has finally been published. The report details history of the US Census along with the history of the Census Transportation Planning Products (CTPP) as well as other data sources published by the Census Bureau and Federal agencies that are useful for transportation. The bulk of the report consists of case studies (with R code and Excel workbooks) that will serve as an useful resource for an engineer or planner who is tasked with using Census and other Federal data to address transportation questions.
My favorite chapter is written by Kevin Tierney of Bird's Hill Research where he walks through a case study using CTPP and Census data to weight survey data. The full report along with the associated R code and Excel workbook can be downloaded from the National Academies site here: https://www.nationalacademies.org/publications/29028
